Client: Busboys and Poets
Busboys and Poets is a funky, urban, and socially-conscious restaurant in Northwest Washington, DC. It has a very unique concept, complete with a built in bookstore and a small performance stage in a back room.
Busboys and Poets approached me to update their site, and wanted the site to be more reflective of the restaurant itself. And while they liked their current site, one of their main concerns was the intense images and slow load times experienced by their customers.
After several drafts, we settled on this template design, which incorporates a background image of a mural which was painted in the back room of the restaurant by owner and local artist, Andy Shallal. The design also has a frivolity to it with almost a collage feeling—very fitting to the many offerings of the restaurant and their often impromptu approach.
Some new features are also being included in the updated site, the foremost of which is the addition of a very well-organized events calendar.
