Advertising Rates Brochure

When I came to work for the UMBC student newspaper as a sophomore, it was in serious need of marketing materials. The organization was partially funded by student fees, but the majority of its income came from advertising sales. Prior to my assistance, there had only been crude rate schedules that lacked in visual appeal and helpful information.

The resulting rate card came from the research of solutions explored by several other universities across the US. My attempt was to keep the card as simple as possible, while not sacrificing any essential information. Inside the card I wanted to present the information to the prospective customer in the order of which questions might be raised. The policies were listed alphabetically, and, on occasion, referenced eachother. On the back of the card was a publication calendar which highlighted university events and a ruler that marked the standard column widths.

The printing was done in two colors by Ridge Printing of Baltimore. The card is a single-fold, four panel tabloid layout which produces a standard letter-sized brochure.

The design has continued to be used for the past few years, while each year a different color and cover image is chosen to distinguish one year’s rates from the next.
