| Buffaloberries Identity

The idea of a name Buffaloberries came from the adventures of Lewis and Clarke as they journeyed across the South Dakota landscape. The berry is native to Canada, and grows wild on the Dakota plains. In addition to dining, the front of the restaurant was to be an artist’s coop gallery. The identity needed to be exciting and to give the artistic message all in one delivery. Traditional approaches of using the literal berry just weren’t cutting it, so I got a little more daring. In my attempts at smashing berries onto paper, one actually possessed the characteristics of a B. After some development, the letter form emerged. I designed the remaining logotype to coincide with the B, giving certain characters bulbous serifs that mimicked the form of a berry. For the supporting typography, Univers Condensed was a perfect compliment. In addition to the identity, I developed the stationery system, product labels, promotional items, signage, and the corporate identity standards manual. |
